Thoughts on the writing process…

As I am in the middle of the writing process for my sophomore album I am constantly reminded of what a great hope we have in Christ! Working out lyrics has never been more difficult, but on the other hand it has never been so easy. The difficulty comes in articulating the words, being transparent, and putting everything in just the perfect order. It is amazing how a change of just one word can affect the entire feel of a song. The easy part is the message! The message of the cross, the hope we have as Christians, the truth of it all, is something that is most powerful in its simplicity. God made a way for us. Through Christ, God has rescued us and now we do all things for His glory! It is an amazingly powerful message that will never grow old or lose its epic-ness… if that is a word.

So my original goal for writing and recording all music stays in tact .. write fresh, creative music with honest and transparent lyrics that lead you to the greater truth of who God is and who YOU are in Him.

New Album on the Horizon!

Hello everybody! I want to let you all know that I am now officially in the writing process for my second record!! It has been too long since the first. We haven’t established any time tables yet. The main focus at this point is getting 10 killer songs together, and then we’ll go from there!

I hope you will pray with me for this process, and that this record turns out fantastic and has an impact on the lives of everyone who listens!

I will keep you updated with more information as we move along!

Getting HOT!

Summer is here and we are ready!

We are heading out for our first week of camp on June 6th. We will be with the awesome youth group of First Baptist Church Garland.. headed up to camp Chaparral in Iowa Park! Looking forward to a great week! – Then we are home for 1 DAY and head straight to our FIRST SUPER SUMMER EVER! We are blessed to lead the rainbow group at ETBU in Marshall, TX! After that we have a week with the Progressive Hearts crew at Latham Springs!! And to finish it off we get to head down south for Alto Frio area camp with Kutless!

We have been praying for all of the students we come in contact with! We have been ordering a bunch of new product, getting our bags packed, buying new underwear, and overall just getting excited to hang with over 2,700 new faces over the course of the summer!!

Can’t wait! Please pray for us while we are gone! Excited to see God move in some spectacular ways!

“Jesus Freak”

So I just listened through the entire DC Talk “Jesus Freak” record on my way to and from a booking yesterday… i was amazed that I remembered just about every word! It has been at least 8 years since I listened through that record. I woke up this morning and while I was thinking about it, God once again confirmed the importance of what we do as Christian musicians. That record has such a deep root in me that I could immediately recall the words after 8 years. – music is SUCH a great way to get the truth of who God is, his character and love, into the core of our hearts! - Those are my thoughts on the matter.

I’ll leave this post with one last thought/prayer - “Lord, by any means possible, let Your word dwell in our hearts so richly that we can recall at any moment the truth we need in order to do battle daily!”

If you know me on any personal level you probably know that I am not a huge fan of contemporary Christian music. I know this sounds weird being that I am a Christian Recording Artist and Worship Leader!.. I believe there is a place for the standard Christian song, and it serves a great purpose… it’s just not my taste! Again, I recognize the paradox in this post! - there is, however one exception to this general rule in my life.. Steven Curtis Chapman. His music has BLESSED me over the years, and not many exist in this industry that write as poetically and from the heart as he does! Fantastic. From “Heaven in the Real World” to “Free” to “Heaven is the Face”… he has put out masterpiece after masterpiece.

Incidentally, if any of you know Steven Curtis Chapman and can get me a lunch appointment to meet and speak with him, I will give you and your church a FREE Aaron Wagner concert, or anything else you might like. I’m not kidding. :) Test me on this and see what happens!
